Dear Parents

Welcome back to the start of a busy 6 week term, during which we will be focusing on road safety, emergency vehicles, River Hamble, transitions to school, life cycles of butterflies, and rehearsing our leaver’s end of term show.

Wheelathon:
Thanks to all of you that took part in the sponsored Wheelathon.  We raised just over £400.00. A truly amazing amount!!!

Summer Raffle:
We are holding a Summer Raffle again this year.  Each child will be sent home with raffle books for you to purchase or sell.  Please return any unsold books.  Additional books will be available.  Some of the prizes so far are football coaching for 2 with Southampton Football Club, a month’s full membership at Hamble Sports Complex, meal vouchers, family days out..  A poster with the full list of prizes will be up in playschool shortly.  The raffle will be drawn on Saturday 11 June at our Summer Fun Day and a list of winners will be put up in playschool the following week.

Summer Fun Day:  PIRATE AND PRINCESS theme
Playschool will be holding our annual summer fundraiser at the rear of the Memorial Hall on Saturday 11 June from 1200 midday.  We will have face painting, arts and crafts, tattoos, lucky dip, bouncy castle, BBQ and bar.  Please bring all the family and enjoy the afternoon and help us to raise funds towards updating playschool resources.

We will also be holding our Teddy Bear Tombola again this year.  If you have any unwanted teddies that are in need of a new home, please drop them into playschool either this week or at the Fun Day on Saturday.

There will be prizes for the best dressed Pirate and Princess.

Car Park Painting:
Recently we were lucky enough to obtain a grant through Councillor Keith House towards the cost of having the rear car park painted with fun educational designs such as a road circuit, pirate trail, number and alphabet strings, hopscotch and shapes.  These changes will have a huge visual impact to anyone visiting playschool, and really help identify the outside space as an important part of the children’s learning experience.  We hope the work will be carried out in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Transition to Hamble Primary School:
If your child is going to Hamble Primary you should shortly be receiving a letter from them regarding settling-in sessions.  Please attend these sessions as they do help the children with transition.

Sessions for September 2016:
If you are not going to school this year, and you have not yet returned the form with your preferred sessions for September on, please do so asap.

Sunny Days:
If we do have any sunny days, please ensure that you apply sun cream to your child before bringing them into playschool. Please advise if your child has any allergies to sun cream.  On hot days we do put the gazebos up and monitor the length of time the children are outside, but it is advisable not to send children in with bare shoulders.  We also do not recommend children wearing flip flops or crocs as they tend to cause the children to trip over.

Last Day of Term and Leaver’s Party:
The last day of term will be Thursday 14 July, however, for all the children who are going to school we will be holding a Leaver’s Party on the morning of Friday 15 July.  Children should be dropped off at playschool at 0930.  We shall be staging a “short” performance by the children in the main hall to which the parents/carers of those children leaving will be invited.  The performance will begin at approx 1145 and last about 15 minutes.  After which the children will need to be collected from the rear hall to say goodbye.  There will be no afternoon session on Friday 15 July.

We will provide the children with party food and drinks during the morning. Please advise Deb or myself if your child has any allergies that we have not previously been informed about.

If anybody is available to help put out/put away the chairs, please arrive at the main hall for 1115.  There is a reply slip at the end of this newsletter.

Learning Journals / Special Files:
Your child’s ‘special file’ will be given to them on their last day.  Please keep it safe as your school reception teacher may ask to see it on the home visit.

Shopper Bags:
The children have been busy drawing faces for our annual fundraiser.  Please look out for the poster when they go on sale.
